About - Evan Harbaugh

Bio

Evan Harbaugh is a data scientist and multimedia generalist from Indiana. Majoring in Digital Multimedia Design, he began his studies at Penn State while serving active duty in the United States Air Force. He has a passion for technology, and had the privilege of servicing America’s fleet of B-2 Stealth Bombers at Whiteman AFB in Missouri. His Air Force career saw him travel overseas for NATO exercises and across the United States to represent his wing at the MAJCOM level.

At the conclusion of his active duty service commitment in 2021, Evan chose to focus on education as a full-time student at Penn State, where he graduated with honors in May of 2024. From there, his academic journey continued when he was accepted into the MS in Business Analytics Program at IU Kelley School of Business shortly thereafter. The coursework was very challenging, with advanced mathematics and rigorous applications of analytical techniques. Thankfully, Evan found a strong connection between his undergraduate degree in Digital Multimedia Design and Business Analytics to be able to visualize data structures and make sense of things like machine learning algorithms. His dedication and perseverance paid off in November of 2025, when he completed his Master of Science in Business Analytics with a cumulative GPA of 4.0/4.0.

Despite rigorous academic responsibilities, he pursued additional occupations throughout his studies. He used his instructional talents he acquired in the Air Force to teach music at a local middle school, where he closely designed the curriculum around Indiana Academic Standards which was celebrated by his students and school administration. He also applied his analytical knowledge to a part-time job at Meijer, where he submitted an optimization model to a company improvement program that could decrease labor costs for the company by over $400,000 annually, simply by reorganizing the layout of pallets in receiving areas for unloading trucks.

Currently, Evan is the Principal Data Scientist at Harbaugh Media, where he is developing new programs and techniques in hopes to unlock the value of machine learning. He recently developed a ML program for intracranial aneurysm detection, and is now competing in the AI Mathematical Olympiad to advance AI in mathematical reasoning.
